Understanding global economy using marriages/love affairs as a metaphor

I keep discussing with people on using different metaphors to understand concepts of economics.

Here is an excellent note from PIMCO chief Bill Gross which helps understand troubles of global economies using marriages as a metaphor. This is something which Paula Szuchman would be proud of (author of Spousonomics)..

He looks at three regions and relates them to different stages of marriages:

Easing Traffic Congestion: Using High Occupancy Toll Lanes

Benjamin Dachis of CD Howe Institute of Canada writes this nice paper on the topic.

To promote carpool driving,  Canada started something called High Occupancy Vehicle Roads. These are special lanes within a highway dedicated for people using the car-pool (more than 2 people). But this has not worked:
