Bhupesh Bhandari of BS has an informative article on the topic. Linking sugarcane crop to banks and government is quite a read.

Broadly the story is same whenever government interferes. Either prices are kept high or low leading to problems in market mechansims. As banks are usually the second party, eventually they get in trouble as well. In this case, prices are kept higher  for mills to benefit the farmers:

As Indians forget their rites and rituals, companies coming up to do them.

A very interesting article by of Times of India. All kinds of services have come up but was unaware of this kind of service as well.

Companies are coming up to do last rites post death in Indian families. There are two reasons for this. One is Indians have very little idea on doing these rites as most stay away from families etc. Second, the inhuman treatment meted out to dead in Indian society. It disturbs many people who wish to bid goodbye to their loved ones in a peaceful and dignified manner. Hence, companies are coming uop which do both – the basic rites and lend dignity to the process.
